Pro-Active Community member Elizabeth and Trustee Helen opened the Active Prospects Joint Governance Conference with a Makaton Welcome message to remind everyone there are lots of ways we can communicate, and to raise awareness of sign language being a useful option.

Emma jane then joined CEO Maria Mills and here is her speech:-

Hello everyone! Welcome to Active Prospects annual Joint Governance meeting. My name is Emma Jane and I work at Active Prospects. I’m also the new Chair of Pro Active Community for 2026. The theme for the conference this year is Belonging in a changing world.

Belonging is something we all need. In a world that’s always changing, its easy to feel left out, but belonging means finding a place where we feel seen, heard, and safe. Its about knowing that we matter, no matter who we are or where we come from.

At Active Prospects I feel like I belong because when we feel like we belong, we can be our true selves and grow stronger together. Let’s work together to make sure everyone has a place where they feel welcomed and supported.
