Working together - we can make a difference

The Surrey Coalition of Disabled People focus group, with supported adults from Active Prospects UK Pro-Active Community Include.org and SeeAbility was facilitated by Alix Lewer.

🗣️Members shared their thoughts and perspectives of using services across Surrey from GP and hospitals to pubs, cafes and dentists.

đź‘€Looking at the accessible offerings, the reasonable adjustments made, or in many cases not made, were talked about, to see what needs improvement.

“The lighting is just too bright” “waiting areas can be noisy and overwhelming” “posters or appointment letters aren’t easy to understand” “not all venues are really accessible” “I don’t go out alone, I would want support to go there”

🔍This project is being researched by Alex Hird, working with Yasmin Broome at Surrey Coalition, partnering with, and on behalf of, Surrey Heartlands Health and Care Partnership.

🔍Further focus groups and 1:1 interviews will continue over the coming months, if you are interested in taking part do reach out to Yasmin Broome.

✨Very interesting hearing so many different experiences, and how there is still a long way to go to make places and services provided in Surrey truly accessible to all. Together we can.
