Guest speakers

Members welcomed guest speakers to the monthly meeting, sharing infomration and advice about good sexual health, being regualr with self checkign and knowing who to turn to if you have any sexual health questions or worries.

James from the Sexual Health team said ‘it is very important to talk to a trusted person, if you have concerns about your body and don’t talk to a trusted person it can make getting the right help for you difficult’

The easy read information leaflets about breast screening and checking, testicular checks and screening, as well as what happens when a female has a smear test. Talking these through as a group in a safe space breaks down barriers and taboos so everyone is properly informed and empowered to make their own choices.

Katie Christmas from the Care Talent Collective talked to members about the chance to join the Oliver McGowan training sessions, delivering vital awareness training with an autistic person, an adult with learning disability and a facilitator ensuring the information is provided by an expert group.

This important paid role is the opportunity to make all professionals working with anyone who has a learning disability or is an autistic person, aware of their needs and requirements and how they should be listened to and best supported.

Finishing with a review on the great and continuing work of the Quality Checkers, all the members were pleased to recruit not only 2 new checkers to the training this year, but also a new Pro Active Member for 2024. Welcome to Barry, we look forward to sharing more updates on what the year holds.
