Multiply Day 3

Day 3 - Another fantastic day at the Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development Centre up in High Ashurst, Dorking Surrey, for members of the Pro Active Community, joining people supported by Active Prospects and their staff, quite a challenge collecting what is needed to build the fire in the rain.

🔥Learning about the science of safe fire management, cooking on the camp fire, doing things for the first time for so many people

All participants shared new experiences building bird boxes and creating something they can keep.

Everyone had to measure the parts, check the construction was correct, and a lot of problem solving too! Checking twice and screwing in once was the lesson learned by most.

Shapes and designs were discussed, shapes in nature and the way certain numeracy puzzles can be solved.

Working out how much paint was needed, what primary colours blended together to make other new secondary colours, and helping one another where additional hands were needed to hold things while building.

Great example of patience and team work by everyone who took part.

These sessions are such a valuable resource only made possible by Multiply funding from Surrey County Council and their education grants.

“I’ve never cooked or eaten a marshmallow before, they are delicious!”

“I didn’t know that became popcorn! I made a whole bowl of warm popcorn - I don’t like marshmallows”

“Making a fire with a flint was brilliant - even in the rain we made it light”

“It’s so muddy - good muddy though”

“Do you know I’ve never done anything like this before - thank you for this chance”

🪺The afternoon tasks including making bird boxes developing measuring skills and the right tools for the job!!

🪛The importance of following instructions, measure twice, check twice, assemble once!!

Another day with so many people all supporting one another to acheive their goals - the best team work ever.

🏆So many ‘firsts’.

2 more weeks to go!!
